Subject: Vaginal Dryness
Definition:
the condition whereby the vagina lacks sufficient natural lubrication such
that sexual intercourse becomes
unpleasant
and/or painful.
Vaginal
Dryness is far from a rare occurence and
has been experienced by most women at some time in their life after
the
age of puberty, { prepubscent vaginal dryness is not discussed here
}
and is most common in women after menopause.
The
exact causes of vaginal dryness are varied. The number one cause is lack
of natural estrogen in the bloodstream, the
result
of normal human aging. But this condition can also be the result of the
use of common allergy medicines, anti-histamines
and
even over the counter products such as vaginal washes, whereby the intent
of the product is to eliminate odor-causing
bacteria.
An unintended side effect of such treatments is to decrease the amount
of natural lubricant inside of the vagina
thereby
causing both itching and dryness.
Women
who are anxious, afraid or disinterested in sexual situations may also
experience a lack of sufficient natural
lubrication
and any attempt at vigorous sexual intercourse may result in pain and discomfort.
These occurences of vaginal
dryness
are considered to have a psychological causation.
If
there does not exist an underlying medical problem that is the primary
cause of vaginal dryness, this condition
can

intercourse
